What is your morning routine? When do you wake up? Do you wake up late? How long does it take you to get out of bed when you wake up? Is that hampering your productivity? Of course, everyone has their routine; some are early birds, and some are night owls. According to a study posted on Sleepfoundation.org, “the early risers reported lower rates of depression and anxiety compared to late-night sleepers.”
As Motivator Ralf Marston, noted, “What you do today can improve all your tomorrows,” i.e., the way you start your early hours sets the buzz for your entire day. It all depends on what you do or how you tackle things you want to get ahead of. Planning an ideal morning routine is unique to each individual; there’s no ideal routine you must follow, but there are some things or habits that can make your day productive and beneficial.
How do I start my day effectively?
There are many ways or habits to include in your morning routine. As far as your productivity is concerned, mornings are the most important time of the day. Adding to that, Lemony Snicket said, “Morning is an important time of day because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have.”
Adapt To This Morning Routine
In this blog, we shall highlight a few effective things you should be doing in the morning to have an overall productive day.
Give yourself time to get out of bed:
Surely, most of us do that whether we sleep early or late. We are in a hurry to get up from our bed immediately, but in my experience, getting up in a hurry is very wrong. Because by doing this, our body and mind feel forced, which is not good. Instead, take a few minutes to acknowledge your mind and gather your body into the place where you have finally awakened.
Embrace the core of nature for productivity:
As we all know embracing the values of nature in the morning (like first rays of sun, fresh air, a beautiful morning view to mind, etc.) is the best way to feel refreshed. In my experience, the second thing you should do when you wake up is take at least a 500m or 1km walk (alone, with someone, or with a pet), or you can sit instead and enjoy the morning views and birds’ songs.
As research from the University of Pittsburgh says, exposure to natural sunlight in the morning can help regulate circadian rhythms and improve alertness.
Circadian rhythms- is a 24-hour internal clock in our brain that controls the sleeping and waking cycles by acknowledging the light and dark in the environment.
Give your body a little magic:
Stop checking your phone or emails in the morning. Instead, energize yourself by drinking some water, because the human body necessitates adequate hydration to function properly. Having a nutrient-rich breakfast and some quiet time (alone), meditating for 10 minutes at least, and reading something can work wonders. Because mindfulness and meditation in your morning routine can enhance productivity, Focusing on breathing helps you remain clear and resilient.
Do a hobby or something you enjoy:
After tackling all the morning things like getting up from bed, embracing nature, having breakfast, meditating, etc. Sit quietly on a sofa or bed or wherever you feel great and do something that makes you feel like yourself, such as journaling, making art, gardening, writing poetry, etc. Because doing a hobby or something you enjoy can be a good way to increase productivity.
For example, a study from the Society of Behavioral Medicine advocates that individuals who incorporate leisure activities into their morning or diurnal routine have fewer negative thoughts, feel less stressed and tired, and have a better mood and calmer heartbeats.
Create a morning playlist:
Music can be the best way to be highly productive and refreshed at the start of the day. Researchers at Stanford University said that music is like a medicine that helps the brain function better. So, I suggest you should create a morning playlist (if you don’t have one) to get your day off to a great start in a productive way.
Wim Hof method:
A Dutch motivational speaker, Sir Wim Hof, demonstrated a method, The Wim Hof Method, that works as a relaxation tool for humans. It is a breathing technique that teaches us to overcome our immune and cardiovascular systems. It involves three things, which should also be a regular part of your morning routine: a cycle of deep breaths in and out, a cold bath (not necessary), and commitment, which helps boost immunity, improve sleep, focus, willpower, release stress, etc.
What is the ideal workday?
- Spend time with your loved ones
- Make yourself a lunch
- Watch the news or your favorite TV show
- Play a game, etc.
Your morning routine can determine your day and live a better life. This is not a fast-paced process, instead, give yourself time to adjust to these routines (if you haven’t) and take it slowly, and you will be rewarded by accepting these things in your routines.
